How It All Started

A number of companies were having some measurement issues and got together to discuss. These measurement experts realized that there
was a gap in knowledge for metering and measurement systems in the industry and put together a group of industry measurement people
to have regular meetings. This is now known as the Industry Measurement Group.

The Group met on a regular basis and discussed various issues that dealt specifically with measurement. it was then realized that more
formal education would be beneficial for the industry in Canada. The Canadian School of Hydorcarbon Measurement (CsHm) was then
born. This school, originally held for one day, has grown to a two-day event with over 50 paper presentations and hands-on training. The annual
school also has over 60 vendors specific to metering and measurement systems.

Our Mission

To share measurement education with all levels of industry.

Our Vision

It is the purpose of the School, the sponsoring associations, and the operating and manufacturing companies within the petroleum and natural gas industry, to provide instruction on technical subjects for people in the industry. In this way, proper facility design, installation, operation and maintenance of measurement and regulation equipment, and the handling of natural gas is presented and studied. Accurate and useful information is also developed and published for the benefit of the industry and the general public.

Our Profile

The Canadian Institute of Hydrocarbon Measurement (CIHM) operates the Canadian School of Hydrocarbon Measurement (CsHm) and is a self-supporting, non-profit organization which is Incorporated in the Province of Alberta, Canada. The expenditures of the School are paid entirely from the proceeds of the School.
